ProSomnus® Sleep and Snore Devices

To be well, whole, and productive, you need the refreshment of a night full of safe and healthy breathing. And believe it or not, you don’t have to go to a sleep specialist for help. Dr. Sepi is a ProSomnus dentist, and can fit you for a sleek and comfortable oral appliance

What’s all the noise about?

Snoring is caused by resistance in the airway. This usually occurs when the tissues of the throat are so lax or narrow that air can’t pass through in a normal way. That means the amount of air getting to your lungs is decreased, your heart has to work harder, your sleep cycles are interrupted, and it all interferes with healthy living.

Obstructive sleep apnea stops you from breathing, sometimes hundreds of times a night and for up to two minutes at a time, it causes a drop in blood oxygen levels. Your body realizes it could die from lack of oxygen, the fight or flight startle response is triggered, and with a gasp, you wake up. This process places a lot of stress on your heart and raises blood pressure.

Now that you know about snoring and obstructive sleep apnea, what can you do to stop it?

Many people begin by seeing their family doctor and undergoing a sleep study. Generally, a CPAP device will be prescribed. The CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) therapy device is considered the gold standard of OSA therapy and some people do well with them, finding instant relief and comfort. Others find sleeping with a mask forcing air into their throats very difficult. Still, others have mild enough sleep apnea or snoring that they don’t need a CPAP but could benefit from deeper sleep and better oxygen intake.
